  WHERE TO DRINK: PUB PROFILE

Four Green Fields

205 W. Platt St.
Tampa, Fla.
813-254-4444

The cook is from Galway, Ireland; the owner's father was from Tipperary, his mother from County Cork; and you can hear Irish music Tuesday through Saturday nights. Four Green Fields is one block from the Tampa Convention Center, but a world apart. It even has a thatched roof.

In November 1992, the first month the pub opened, draft Guinness sales in the Tampa area increased 87 percent over the same month the previous year. Green Fields might not have been the only reason, but they went through three kegs of Guinness a day that month. Today, 20-ounce pints of Guinness are poured from four taps. Harp, Bass and mainstream domestics also are available on tap. Salads and sandwiches are offered, as well as Irish standbys such as corned beef and cabbage ($8.25), shepherd's pie ($7.95) and Irish stew ($7.95).

Hours: 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Food 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

Location: From Interstate 275, take Exit 24 south on Armenia one mile to the fourth traffic light (Platt Street). Go left on Platt 1-1/2 miles. From Crosstown Expressway, take Willow Street Exit to Platt Street.

More vitals: Parking in rear, separate smoking section, wheelchair accessible. Machines, televisions prohibited.
